South County HS Marketing Students Develop Winning “Shop Small” Campaign
Advanced Marketing students at South County High made national news in DECA Direct, the high school marketing association’s national newsletter, for their winning study of Occoquan. The students were challenged to develop a promotional campaign for Small Business Saturday, coming up on November 25, based on the theme Shop Small. Using the Occoquan River as a centerpiece, they developed activities that supported events by water and land. They used project-based learning skills to encourage residents and visitors to support local businesses in new ways, targeting the consumer and his or her motivations to purchase items.
