Robotics Teams Excel at State Competition, Head to Nationals

Robotics teams representing three schools competed at the 2020 VEX Robotics State Competition. The teams won the following awards and recognitions:

Team 80708X-Exobytes, consisting of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) sophomores Joshua Lim, Christopher Arraya, Rushil Sidhu, and Terrel Tan, won the Excellence Award, the Robot Skills Champion Award, and were named tournament finalists.


McLean Team

Team 22101A, McRoboto from McLean High, won the Design Award, presented to a team that demonstrates an organized and professional approach to the design process, project and time management, and team organization. The team consists of Mia Hsu, Veda Hedge, Alex Zaccardelli, and Milo Engel. McRoboto’s engineering notebook and judges interview demonstrated its ability to produce a quality robot with minimal adult assistance. 

Team 999A Rising Phoenix—Genius from Spring Hill Elementary won three awards at the competition. Team members are Mindy Bao, Kristen Han, Sammy Li, Zoe Pak, Renee Shi, and Helena Zhai.  Rising Phoenix-Genius won the Excellence Award, for the team with the highest scores in each category. They also won the Skill Award, presented to the team with the highest score in combined driving and programming skills; and the Team Work Award, presented to the team with the highest score in team driving skills.
