FCPS is famous for its ability to collaborate, and professional educators from Region 5 gathered together this week to share what they have learned about distance learning, lessons, and technology tools. Education professionals from the region’s 34 schools collaborated to make their best practices available to their colleagues at a Region 5 Share Fair. Among the topics covered were how to create online worksheets, how to embed questions and polls into YouTube videos to gauge student feedback while they watch, creating a bitmoji classroom screen, creating GIFs with Snagit, using Slidesmania to create Google Slides templates, and using Hyperdocs and Lonely Screen. Teachers also shared their strategies to keep students engaged and simplify the process of turning in work (keeping everything in one place; in this case, in Google Classroom), encouraging Career and Technical Education (CTE) students to illustrate their media production techniques, to create and share original artwork that will be shared in the department Instagram account, and using video mini-lessons to help critique student writing. Teachers were able to come and go as their schedules permitted; the event was recorded and is available in Google Classroom.  Participant Sara Chae, who serves as ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) resource teacher at Fairfax Academy and ESOL teacher at Fairfax High, said, “I learned a lot in that short time.”
