Mount Vernon HS Students Support Pyramid with Tutoring
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Mount Vernon High Rotary Interact Club started a tutoring program for Title 1 elementary school students from the Mount Vernon pyramid. That program will be held online every other week due to COVID restrictions. Elementary students were identified for tutoring by word of mouth, networking with other families in the community, and with the help of a former science teacher. Tutors plan to discuss future student tutoring opportunities with a few of the Mount Vernon Pyramid elementary school principals. The Mount Vernon High Rotary Interact Club has over 30 active members; 10 to 15 members are actively involved with the student tutoring program. Jaya is currently the president and one of the founders of the club, which meets virtually every other week; she and Catherine (pictured) are among the student tutors.
