McNair ES Students Become Quilt Designers for Love Quilt Project
McNair Elementary sixth graders will try their hand at quilt design as part of the Love Quilt Project, which engages students in designing quilt squares that are then made into quilts by quilters for South African children. A representative from the program will speak to students at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 14. The South African children are orphans who are typically living in a special house with 4-5 other orphans and a house mother to form a family-style group. The Love Quilt Project representative will introduce the students to the project with a video, a PowerPoint that explains the background of South Africa, and actual quilts that have been made. During the week of February 18-21, McNair students will each design a quilt square for a future quilt. The project supports Portrait of a Graduate’s Creative and Critical Thinker skill and the Positivity Project trait of love. Contact news liaison Melanie Cross at firstname.lastname@example.org.
