Lorton Station Elementary Student Named Wheelchair Basketball Player of the Week
Kidus, a sixth grade student at Lorton Station Elementary, has been named player of the week for the junior prep division of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. Kidus is a member of the local youth wheelchair basketball team, the Fairfax Falcons, where he plays on both the varsity and junior varsity teams. Nominators praise the 12-year old for using a combination of athleticism and understanding of the game to lead his team to an undefeated 4-0 weekend at a tournament. He is credited with contributing an average of 14.2 points in junior varsity and 7.75 points per game in varsity, including the winning basket in an overtime game. In his prep games, he also grabbed nine rebounds and contributed five assists per game. Kidus scored points from inside and out and with a knack for traditional three-point plays, and often set up his teammates for scoring opportunities. Kings Glen Elementary teacher Lisa Rode is one of the team’s coaches. Contact Lisa Rode at email@example.com.
