Longfellow MS, South Lakes HS Students Take Top Honors in Essay Contest
Two Longfellow Middle students and a South Lakes High student were among the top three finishers in an essay contest based on the theme, "Can Society Function Without Respect?" sponsored by the Great Falls Optimist Club. Mackenzie Chen, an eighth grader at Longfellow Middle School, won first place; second place went to Sam Barbaro, a sophomore at South Lakes High; and third place was awarded to Faraz Mirza, a seventh grader at Longfellow Middle. Chen's essay will represent the Great Falls Optimist Club at the district level competition, where club winners from around the district compete for a $2,500 scholarship.
