Lake Anne Elementary has been awarded more than $4,000 in grants for student-driven projects to restore, expand, and protect the school’s nine-year-old outdoor learning garden.  The four grants, provided by Eco-Rise, will be used to restore raised beds, provide soil for vegetable beds, create a garden path, and purchase garden tools.  Students on the school’s Eco-School team held a garden audit to determine what areas of the garden needed improvement.  Then, they made videos to accompany their grant applications in which they talk about what they would do to improve their garden if they had a new path, new tools, fresh soil and compost in which to grow vegetables and herbs, and had the funds to restore their raised beds.  Contact news liaison Sue Garrison at
