Highlights from the October 21, 2021 Regular School Board Meeting

The October 21, 2021, regular meeting opened up with a performance of the National Anthem by the Lake Braddock Secondary School Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Clayton Allen. 

The School Board approved a resolution renaming the Falls Church High School Gymnasium the Jeanne Kelly Gymnasium.

The School Board approved a resolution honoring Educate Fairfax. 

The School Board approved a resolution honoring International Augmentative and Alternative Communication Awareness Month.

The School Board approved the National Career Development Month recognition. 

The Board unanimously approved the superintendent’s recommendation to increase the pay of substitute teachers to help attract new people to this role.  The Board also voted to direct the superintendent to provide an analysis of the Instructional Assistant (IA), Public Health Training Assistant (PHTA), and Public Health Attendant (PHA) substitute pay scales.  Full details of the vote.

The School Board voted to adopt the Divisionwide Comprehensive Plan. The Divisionwide Comprehensive Plan consists of School Board strategic plan goals, aligned with the operational plans of the system. Every two years, an updated divisionwide comprehensive plan builds on the previous plan and outlines the work that is necessary to accomplish long-term priorities. Read the plan.

The Fairfax County School Board has contracted human resources recruitment firm GR Recruiting to conduct a nationwide search for the next Superintendent of Schools. The process will include many opportunities for public input.  More information can be found here.
