Foundation for FCPS Receives Grant from Boeing to Increase STEM Learning
The Foundation for Fairfax County Public Schools has received a $100,000 grant award from the Boeing Company to support the Edison High School pyramid and specifically the Global STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Challenges program.
The grant will support STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) integration efforts in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) that align K-12 education with available career choices and skill development in the 21st century. Specifically, the grant will provide equipment and recruitment tools for the Global STEM Challenges program, provide new STEM curriculum elements for grades K-8, and support both classroom activities and after-school programs in the pyramid schools that are designed to spark students’ interest in pursuing additional opportunities in STEM fields and applying to the program. Boeing engineers will participate in some of the after-school activities as well as continue to provide support to students in the program.
“Boeing is dedicated to preparing and inspiring the next generation of innovators, engineers, dreamers, and doers,” said Jason Pak, Boeing Global Engagement community investor. “Our ongoing partnership with the Foundation and investment in Fairfax County Public Schools further expands hands-on STEM learning opportunities to students at all levels.”
Elizabeth Murphy, executive director of the Foundation, stated, “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Boeing to increase STEM opportunities for our students. The work that they are supporting will be replicable throughout the district and make a huge impact on our students.”
