FCPS School Year Calendar Development Webinar

November 02, 2021

Dear FCPS Community,

FCPS is developing its 2022-23 School Year Calendar. We are committed to maintaining a transparent process, as we work to build a calendar that is inclusive and equitable.

Hearing from our community is an important part of this work. Please join us Monday, November 8, at 7 p.m., for a virtual Calendar Development Webinar hosted on the Zoom platform. We will share information on how the calendar is developed and invite you to provide feedback on a series of questions related to this process.

This year, calendar development will be guided by a framework that clearly outlines the four factors that FCPS must consider when creating the school year calendar:

  1. State and Federal Law: Have a secular reason to establish a holiday. Provide 180 days or 990 hours of instruction.

  2. State Guidance: Establish a Calendar Feedback Committee and provide opportunities for community input such as a Calendar Survey and our upcoming webinar.

  3. Superintendent Priorities: Deliver high-quality instruction for students, which includes professional development for teachers and ensuring schools are adequately staffed.

  4. School Board Priorities: Each member will share their most important considerations for the school calendar.

Insight gained from the Calendar Feedback Committee and other community engagement activities noted above will be weighted against the calendar framework and considered when FCPS leadership creates a calendar option.

FCPS is offering this community engagement opportunity in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Korean.

Please register to attend the Calendar Development Webinar and indicate if you will need an interpreter. You will receive the webinar link on November 8, from “Office of Communication and Community Relations.”

Visit FCPS’ website for more information on the calendar development process. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Sincerely,
