FCPS to Host Town Hall on TJHSST Admissions September 23

News Release
September 23, 2020

Join Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Superintendent Scott S. Brabrand at a virtual town hall from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, to hear feedback on his proposed changes to the admissions policy at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST).

The Superintendent will be joined by TJHSST admissions director Jeremy Shughart and Leona Vance-Smith, director of equity and family engagement, to take questions and hear community input on the proposal.

The Town Hall will be broadcast live on FCPS cable TV Channel 99 (Cox and Comcast) or channel 11 (Verizon) and on the FCPS website

Families and community members are invited to submit comments to TJcomments@fcps.edu or call into the town hall live to ask questions during the event at 1-800-231-6359.

The discussion will center around efforts to increase diversity at the school while maintaining high admissions standards as presented by Brabrand last week.  Read the report online. The proposed changes will not eliminate merit-based admissions but are intended to address the racial and economic disparities at TJ along with an overreliance on the current admissions test.
