Fairfax County School Board Sets Community Meeting, Public Hearing for Lee High School Renaming
The Fairfax County School Board has scheduled a community meeting and public hearing to gather comments and input on the process of renaming Robert E. Lee High School from families and the community.
A community meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lee High School cafeteria. Participants will be asked to work in small groups to discuss and share their thoughts on whether the school should be renamed or provide suggestions for a new school name. Feedback will be collected, transcribed, and posted online after the meeting, and shared with the School Board and Superintendent Scott S. Brabrand.
A School Board Public Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, at 6 p.m. at Jackson Middle School. Beginning March 4, members of the community can sign up to speak at the public hearing online.
Input and comments can also be shared via email to Region3admin@fcps.edu.
Once the public comment period has ended, the School Board will take action on whether or not to change the name of the school.
Regulation 8170 outlines Procedures for Naming School Facilities and Dedicating Areas of School Facilities or Grounds, the process for renaming schools and engaging the community.
