Highlights from the February 8, 2018 Regular School Board Meeting

The February 8, 2018, regular meeting of the School Board opened with a performance of the National Anthem by the Holmes Middle School Advanced Treble Chorus, under the direction of Karli Eddinger.

 

The School Board appointed E. Leigh Burden as the Assistant Superintendent for Financial Services effective March 8, 2018.

 

The School Board recognized Custodian Appreciation Week and Crossing Guard Appreciation Day.

 

The Board recognized the Westfield Varsity Field Hockey team for winning the Concorde District Title, Region 6A North Title, and the 6A Virginia State Championship as well as Westfield Bulldog Varsity Football team for winning the VHSL State Football title for the third year in a row. The James Madison HS Band was celebrated for winning the National Band Association's Blue Ribbon Award.                   .

 

The Board read a resolution honoring Chief Operating Officer Susan Quinn who is retiring after 29 years of service to Fairfax County Public Schools.

 

Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services Dr. Sloan Presidio presented the establishment of the New Level IV Advanced Academic Center at Bush Hill Elementary School and the adoption of new pupil assignment plan. 

 

The Board voted to adopt the FY19 Advertised Budget. 

 

The next regular business meeting of the School Board will be on Thursday, February 22, 2018.
