Carson Middle Team Finishes Second in National We the People Competition
After winning the state competition, Carson Middle’s We the People team placed second at the National Invitational middle school level tournament held in Leesburg. The National Invitational takes the form of a simulated congressional hearing where groups of students testify as constitutional experts before panels of judges acting as congressional committees. Each class is divided into six groups based on the six units of the We the People: The Citizen & the Constitution textbook. Each hearing begins with a four-minute opening statement by students followed by a six-minute period of follow-up questioning during which judges probe the students' depth of knowledge, understanding, and their ability to apply constitutional principles. The Carson team is sponsored by Cynthia Burgett. Contact news liaison Elizabeth Donovan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
