Canterbury Woods ES Celebrates Deaf Awareness Week
Students and staff members at Canterbury Woods Elementary capped their celebration of Deaf Awareness Week by learning about the three different modalities of communication used by people who are deaf or hard of hearing. During a full-school morning meeting, deaf students explained to their classmates how they communicate. Some deaf or hard of hearing students use American Sign Language; others use cued language; and others use oral communication, sometimes with the assistance of hearing equipment. Students shared that despite differences in hearing and methods of communication, people are more alike than different. Contact news liaison Fran Migdal at email@example.com.
