Broadcast journalism students in grades 7-12 are meeting this week during the first annual FCPS Broadcast Journalism Student Summit. Ellyn Whiteash of Westfield High, Joan Brown of Woodson High, Kristine Brown of Chantilly High, and Lindsay Benedict of McLean High organized this weeklong conference to bring together talented and career-minded students in all journalism classes. Students can share their work and creative ideas as well as meet professionals in the industry and includes virtual sessions for journalism students. Students started with a meet and greet session to share their production content both before quarantine and during. McLean High graduates Anne Schroeder, a reporter at WSLS-10 in Roanoke and Liz-Brown Kaiser, a fellow at NBC News, shared their career stories with students. Other sessions include techniques with technical equipment hosted by multimedia engineers in FCPS and a lesson on YouTube copyright with a copyright attorney. The summit will end with a keynote on Thursday with Donna Nelson-Schneider, network news producer with 20 years' experience at NBC and CBS. Contact Woodson news liaison Joan Brown at [email protected]
