Fred Amico, who retired from FCPS as a high school principal, is now the interim executive principal for Region 3 effective October 29, 2020.
Amico has spent over 32 years in Fairfax County Public Schools and has worked as a teacher, coach, assistant activities director, assistant principal, and principal during his tenure. Early in his career, Amico was an English teacher at West Potomac High School and continues to have strong ties to the Region 3 community as a parent of two former graduates. He also taught English at Justice, Langley and Woodson high schools. More recently, he served as assistant principal and later, principal of Langley High School from 2005-2015.
Amico believes strongly that being an effective leader is dependent upon mentoring staff and building strong relationships with all stakeholders. He is highly respected in Fairfax County for his many years of outstanding service and leadership to the district.
Amico grew up in Springfield, attended Justice High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of William and Mary. He later obtained a master’s in education administration from George Mason University.
