Evans is a former reporter and staff writer for The Washington Post who has served on the School Board since March 2010. During her time on the Board, she has served as Board Chair and Vice Chair as well as chair of the Budget Committee, Governance Committee, Public Engagement Committee and Comprehensive Planning and Development Committee. She has also been the Board liaison to the School Health Advisory Committee, the Fairfax County Planning Commission and the Fairfax County Park Authority.

Evans has a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the  University of Maryland-College Park. Prior to joining the Board, she was an active community leader and advocate.  She co-founded Start Later for Excellence in Education Proposal (SLEEP) to advocate for later high school start times for teen health; was president of the Sleepy Hollow ES PTA and legislative committee chair for the Fairfax County Council of PTAs; served on the School Health Advisory Committee, the School Board’s Transportation Task Force, the Northern Virginia Healthy Kids Coalition; and was a founding member of the Fairfax Education Coalition (FEC).

Evans is married and is the mother of two daughters and grandmother of one.
