Digital Citizenship: Teachers

Preparing FCPS Teachers

Teacher Training:

All FCPS teachers are provided training on the topics of digital citizenship and can receive additional supports and professional learning to address their needs from both school-based and central personnel.

The topics include:

  • Cyberbullying
  • Digital Drama and Hate Speech
  • Digital Footprint and Identity
  • Media Balance and Well-Being
  • News and Media Literacy
  • Privacy and Security
  • Relationships and Communication

Authentic Opportunities:

When teachers and students use technology for learning, it provides authentic opportunities for teachers to explicitly teach and model the safe, ethical, and responsible use of technology. It also provides authentic opportunities for students to practice and demonstrate the skills and behaviors of being a good digital citizen within the educational context.

Student Curriculum:

In addition to on-going content-integrated digital citizenship instruction, FCPS also utilizes the Common Sense Media digital citizenship curriculum to build foundational knowledge and language around the topics of Digital Citizenship. Parents can access the curriculum using their FCPS 24-7 Parent View account. Once logged in, parents can click the Curriculum tab, and then the Digital Citizenship tab.
