Q and A

What is the impact of the cancellation of the ACT and SAT test dates on college admissions? (revised 5/1/20)

ACT and SAT Testing scheduled in FCPS locations during the 2019-20 school year have been cancelled. Students will receive information directly from College Board and ACT regarding options for rescheduling. FCPS high schools should consider hosting the ACT or SAT in the fall with higher numbers than previous administrations due to the cancellations this spring. ACT and SAT are also both developing potential at home options for testing if needed. During this time, we have seen that some colleges and universities are announcing that they will be test-optional for students in the class of 2021.

Additional information about ACT is available at the following link: https://www.act.org/content/act/en/covid-19.html

Additional information about SAT is available at the following link: https://pages.collegeboard.org/natural-disasters

(VDOE) What SOL tests will school divisions administer when schools reopen?

The only SOL tests that school divisions will administer in Summer 2020 or upon students returning to school will be the end-of-course SOL tests that students take to earn verified credits toward meeting their graduation requirements. While some school divisions requested the opportunity to administer the SOL reading and/or mathematics tests for the lower grades to students to determine gaps in learning due to the recent school closures and/or as a baseline for growth in the 2021 accreditation cycle, this option will not be available to school divisions.
