Distance Learning Update

We were so excited to see our students in their virtual classrooms all week!  The students are doing a great job participating in their lessons and being good digital citizens.  Now that the students know how to find their class Blackboard Collaborate links through their FCPS Gmail accounts, we are ready to begin live sessions for specials starting on Monday, May 4.  Classroom teachers will post a video to their Google Classroom that will guide students through finding each link to their specials (PE, Art, Music, Japanese, Band, Strings, Library and AAP).  Each grade level has multiple links to different specials, so we created an organizer to help you keep track of the different class links.  The video will also provide students with directions to save these links so they are easier to locate when needed.

Westgate ES

Dear Westgate Families,

We made it through our first FULL successful week of Distance Learning and my heart couldn't be more happy! It was amazing to pop into classrooms and see all of our students engaging in lessons, sharing with one another, and accessing instruction virtually.

I want to send a huge thank you out to all our teachers who put in so many hours making sure we were ready (again) for a meaningful and smooth week of learning.  Also, THANK YOU parents for continuing to support our teachers, and our entire school community, as we transitioned to this new platform for learning.

These are hard and uncertain times, and there are countless things outside of school that many of us are going through, and experiencing.  I can't tell you how much we have appreciated your continued flexibility, words of encouragement, and the kindness you have extended to our staff during this time.  Our ultimate goal was to reconnect with students and start teaching again.  This week feels like a "win" for us and for that, we are grateful.

As always, thank you for your continued support of all things Westgate and know that regardless of our physical distance, we continue to be here for you and your families.  Please never hesitate to reach out if you need us, and have a wonderful weekend ahead!

 All my best,

Hallie Demetriades

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

We are very excited for the great week of instruction and hope that you are beginning to settle into a routine that works for your family at home.  As we look forward to next week, we want to thank our amazing teachers, instructional assistants, support staff, and office staff for everything they do each and every day for our children!  We are so incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated and amazing staff.  The PTA is collaborating with us to make sure we have an awesome virtual appreciation week!  Please look for an email from your room parent for more information.

With synchronous instruction in full swing, we are introducing specialists’ office hours daily on Monday - Thursday.  The specialists are hosting office hours through one Blackboard Collaborate Ultra link which has been sent (this week) to your child’s email address.

Distance Learning Update

Dear Belvedere Family:

This week has been so successful with synchronous learning via Blackboard Collaborate Ultra! Thank you to all for your patience and support as we worked this out. We have had huge participation in all online classes and have seen this grow as the week progressed. The students are so excited to see their teachers and are so flexible and resilient as they tackle technology challenges. We know that you are right there by your child’s side, so thank you for being our teaching partner.

We recognize the challenges of having children at home all day and of doing school from home. Below are links to extensive resources that are available to our Belvedere families, which include mental wellness supports, food and financial resources, tips for talking with children, medical resources, and online learning resources.

As always, we are here to support you. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or to us should you have any questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Cecilia Vanderhye, Principal
