Seventeen Students Named Winners of 2019 National Merit Corporate-Sponsored Scholarships

Seventeen Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students have been awarded 2019 corporate-sponsored scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The students are part of a group of more than 1,000 National Merit finalists chosen to receive scholarships financed by corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations.


Winners of the corporate-sponsored scholarships, with their probable career fields in parentheses, are: 

 

  • Lindsay Jones of Chantilly High School (consulting), National Merit CACI Scholarship.
  • Daniel Zhao of Chantilly High School (engineering), National Merit CACI Scholarship.
  • Leo Ouyang of Fairfax High School (finance), National Merit Northrop Grumman Scholarship.
  • Emily Sheng of Fairfax High School (medicine), National Merit CACI Scholarship.
  • Marisa Mihori of Langley High School (obstetrics-gynecology), National Merit Northrop Grumman Scholarship.
  • Grace Grossman of Marshall High School (medicine), National Merit Senator Charles S. Robb Scholarship.
  • Sriram Amirneni of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) (surgical medicine), National Merit CACI Scholarship.
  • Nishanth Anand of TJHSST (astrophysics), National Merit E*Trade Scholarship.
  • Liana Keesing of TJHSST (electrical engineering), National Merit Leidos, Inc., Scholarship.
  • Mina Kim of TJHSST (computer science), National Merit General Dynamics Corporation Scholarship.
  • Rishabh Krishnan of TJHSST (computer science), National Merit Raytheon Scholarship.
  • Eliot Liu of TJHSST (mechanical engineering), National Merit Northrop Grumman Scholarship.
  • Jerry Liu of TJHSST (computer science), National Merit Northrop Grumman Scholarship.
  • Maguire Papay of TJHSST (electrical engineering), National Merit Northrop Grumman Scholarship.
  • Lilia Qian of TJHSST (law), National Merit CACI Scholarship.
  • Richard Wang of TJHSST (engineering), National Merit Northrop Grumman Scholarship.
  • Anna Xu of TJHSST (applied mathematics), National Merit CACI Scholarship.

Corporate sponsors provide merit scholarship awards for National Merit finalists who are children of their employees, who are residents of communities the companies serve, or who have college majors or career interests the sponsors want to encourage.


Corporate-sponsored merit scholarship awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and range from $500 to $10,000 per year.  Others provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000.  Recipients can use the awards at regionally accredited U.S. colleges or universities of their choice.
