Cynthia Kadohata is the author of the Newbery Medal–winning book Kira-Kira, the National Book Award winner The Thing About Luck, Cracker!, Outside Beauty, A Million Shades of Gray, and Half a World Away.

During World War II, Cynthia Kadohata’s dad was imprisoned in Arizona in a Japanese internment camp. His experiences inspired the award-winning author to write Weedflower. In an interview with Children's Bookshelf she said, “I'd always wanted to write an [internment] 'camp' book. It became more important to me as my father grew older.”

In this live edition of Meet the Author, author Kadohata talks about Kira Kira and her latest novel A Place to Belong. She answers questions posed by Rocky Run Middle School students (FCPS) via Skype.
