Applications for Instructional Coach

Instructional Coaches are teacher leaders who have evidence of student achievement in the classroom teaching language arts/English and/or mathematics. Instructional Coaches partner with teachers to close achievement gaps through improving teaching and learning by providing job-embedded professional learning and instructional support in the content areas. They focus on closing the achievement gap in reading and math in a culture of collaboration. Teachers with expertise in English/language arts or mathematics are urged to apply.

Instructional Coaches are on an eleven-month (218-day) teacher contract with a start date of mid-July 2019.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, in a K-8 core curriculum or 7-12 English or mathematics, with a valid teaching license issued by or recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Highly qualified status is required.
  • Preferred five years of progressive teaching experience with a strong understanding of the Fairfax County Program of Studies and the Virginia Standards of Learning objectives.
  • Applicants must also document a history of professional development and teacher leader activities at the school and district levels.

Expert knowledge of the following is required:

  • English/language arts or math content and pedagogy
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Strong knowledge and experience in leading the work of Professional Learning Communities -Strong knowledge of FCPS Learning Model, current educational research, strategies for differentiating to meet the needs of diverse learners, and resources related to instruction and FCPS goals and objectives
  • Experience leading teams of teachers and facilitating adult learning

English 8 Intervention Support Teacher

Description: Part-time hourly position that provides direct academic intervention to small group or individual students accessing the English 8 curriculum primarily during our daily 40-minute Eagle Time intervention period. Description: Performs the skilled journey-level painting work required to prepare, finish, and/or refinish interior and exterior surfaces. 

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by completion of an acceptable apprentice-level painter-training program, plus three years of progressively more responsible experience as a painter. Ability to lay out lines and courts on playgrounds, athletic fields, and parking lots; can demonstrate knowledge of the methods and skills in the use equipment, materials, and tools appropriate for maintenance and repair activities; knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions; knowledge of local, state, and national codes; ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals; capability to estimate time and material needs, determine when repair is not economically practical, and perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations; knowledge of basic computer skills; and strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. 2019 Extended School Year (ESY) Summer Administrator

The Office of Special Education Instruction will be providing extended school year (ESY) services to students requiring special education services through the summer. This is an outstanding opportunity to demonstrate your ability to manage and maintain accountability for the planning, assessment, instructional leadership, communication, community relations, and safety and security of a Fairfax County Public Schools ESY class-based services site. Ideal candidates should possess the skills required to supervise both the instructional programs for students with disabilities and the facilities of an assigned summer learning program site.

Sites will include:

  • elementary sites (preschool and elementary)
  • secondary sites (middle and high school)

Applicants must have support from their current building principal in order fulfill the ESY contract. If selected, the ESY administrator must attend all of the administrative trainings provided prior to and during ESY. These trainings will be provided virtually and as face-to-face sessions.

 

Qualifications: Must be a current FCPS employee. In addition, applicants must hold a Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement as a school principal or in administration and supervision preK-12, plus five years of progressive teaching and leadership experience or equivalent experience. Applicants must be licensed at the level of the position for which they are applying. Assistant principal experience is preferred. Applicants should also possess a strong ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate school staff, programs, and services. Applicants should also possess strong communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships with central office personnel, staff, parents, community, and the general public.

Demonstrate your leadership skills as the site director of the 2019 Elementary Institute for the Arts (E-IFTA), Tech Adventure Camp, or the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Camp. The site director will work in conjunction with the central enrichment programs principal to supervise and monitor the staff, students, resources and the implementation of the E-IFTA, Tech Adventure Camp, or STEM Camp programs.

Site Director-E-IFTA (6/26-7/26)
The E-IFTA Site Director will oversee an enrichment program that engages students in the visual and performing arts.  E-IFTA serves students who are in grades 3-5 during the 2018-2019 school year.

Qualifications: Minimum of five years teaching experience, knowledgeable about effective fine arts instruction, experience working with elementary aged students, and managing staff and resources.  The E-IFTA Site Director will work in conjunction with the E-IFTA program manager on some aspects of the program coordination. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and be knowledgeable with Excel spreadsheets and functions.

The Tech Adventure Site Director will implement a program that gives students the opportunity to explore careers and technology. Tech Adventure Camp serves students who are in grades 5-7 during the 2018-2019 school year.

Supporting the FCPS Middle School After-School Program

The Fairfax County Public Schools Middle School After-School program affords interested candidates the opportunity to work with groups of middle school students in a variety of academic, enrichment, youth development, and recreational activities from 2:30–6 p.m. daily. We are looking for help with a myriad of activities to include, but not limited to, tutoring; teaching drama, dance, cooking, painting, gardening, and creative writing; supervising a literacy, math, technology, or science activity; coaching a sports activity, or teaching aerobics. Work 1 to 3 hours per day for 1 to 5 days a week at multiple sites or simply concentrate at one location. Candidates must be able to establish excellent rapport with middle school students and have a willingness to serve as a positive role model. The ability to communicate and collaborate with other after-school staff, classroom teachers, administrators, parents, and community members is essential. Salary is dependent on experience and education level. This is an excellent opportunity for elementary, middle, and high school teachers to supplement their income.
