Former Employees Make Excellent Substitutes
Former employees are able to apply online to be a substitute teacher or a substitute instructional assistant through the FCPS Instructional Talent Gateway.
When applying to be a substitute teacher, please have the following documents ready to upload.
- Resumé
- Proof of Qualifications
- For Substitute Teacher...
- Former FCPS employees who were contracted or substitute assistant/attendant and non-instructional personnel
- Copy of undergraduate college transcripts, if not previously uploaded into the application, that shows 30 credit hours or more (grade reports, graduate transcripts, or college diplomas are not accepted)*** An exception may be provided for applicants who do not have a minimum of 30 college credits but are enrolled in an approved teacher education preparatory program or participated in a teacher introduction course in high school, like Teachers for Tomorrow.
- For Substitute Instructional Assistant or Attendant...
- Former FCPS employees who were non-instructional personnel:
- Copy of high school diploma***, if not previously uploaded into the application
- For Substitute Teacher...
- Recommendation Letters – must be dated within the last 12 months and hand-signed
- One letter is required and must be from a current employer, if applicable; otherwise one from a previous employer is acceptable.
***If your high school diploma or college transcript was issued outside of the U.S., an evaluation is required. No exceptions will be made. Visit the Virginia Department of Education website for a list of approved agencies for obtaining official U.S. degree equivalency evaluation of foreign credentials.
After completing the application process, call the Office of Substitute Employment at 571-423-3030 option #1.
