CTE Summer Academy
A summer enrichment and skills development program for students currently in grades 7-11.
Summer 2021
CTE Summer Academy (CSA) is a weekly enrichment program that allows students to dive deeper into CTE program areas, and encourages skill development and career exploration. The program is open to students in grades 7-11 during the 2020-21 school year.
Students are able to personalize their experience by choosing which CTE classes they will take!
Eligibility
Open to students in grades 7-11 during the 2020-21 school year. Students currently in grades 2-7 may participate in Tech Adventure Camp.
All students are welcome:
- FCPS students.
- Students enrolled in private schools.
- Students who are home schooled.
- Non-Fairfax County residents.

Classes
The following classes are being offered for summer 2021:
Family and Consumer Sciences
Eating to the Endzone (levels 1 and 2)
Do you love cooking? Build basic skills or expand your knowledge in culinary arts and food preparation in this class!
Secrets of Sewing (levels 1 and 2)
Learn the art of sewing in this class. From the beginning steps of threading a needle to being able to produce masterpieces out of fabric, this class is sure to teach you impressive life skills!
Health and Medical Sciences
Emergency First Aid/CPR
Do you have what it takes to help someone in an emergency? Learn the basics of First Aid and CPR in this class so you can help someone in need or yourself!.
Animal Care
Become a better pet owner and learn about how to properly care for animals. You’ll be able to gain insight into the veterinary sciences programs offered at FCPS.
Nursing Essentials
Calling all those interested in nursing! Learn about nursing career pathways and gain hands-on experiences with tools and equipment in nursing.
Business and Information Technology
Coding Adventures (levels 1 and 2)
Are you interested in coding and programming? Learn the basics or take your skills to the next level in this exciting class.
All About the Apps (levels 1 and 2)
Do you have an idea for a new app? Learn how to design and develop apps for the next generation of app users.
Cyber Security Fundamentals
Can you stop hackers from getting into the network? Learn the skills of cybersecurity and how to protect yourself and others from online threats.
Mastering Microsoft
Want to sharpen your Microsoft Office skills? This class will help you master the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. These skills are highly sought after in the workforce!

Let’s Get Social!
Are you the next social media influencer? See what it takes to use social media as a marketing tool and gain some new skills!
Sports Marketing
How do the sports and entertainment industry brand and market themselves? Learn all about it in this class!
Walking the Runway
Do you have a passion for fashion? Learn how to promote clothing and accessories in this fun marketing class!
Entrepreneurship: Shark Tank
Do you have what it takes to win over the sharks? In our own version of “Shark Tank,” students will become entrepreneurs.
Technology and Engineering Education
CAD 101 (levels 1 and 2)
Learn how to design like an engineer, architect, and product designer! Our Computer-Aided Design (CAD) classes can teach you the basics of using CAD or help expand skills you have already learned in the classroom.
Let’s Make It!
3D Printing, Laser Cutting, and CNC machines, oh my! Explore these rapid prototyping techniques and learn how to properly use these machines to create your next invention.
Problem Solving (levels 1 and 2)
Do you have what it takes to solve an engineering design problem? Take a deeper dive into the engineering problem-solving process to solve a problem from ideas to testing a developed solution.
World of Robots (levels 1 and 2)
Do you have a passion for robots? Take your skills to the next level or learn the basics of building, programming, and controlling robots.

Mechanic Mania
Interested in vehicles? Learn the basics of auto technology and car care in this interactive class.
Home Building
How do we build homes? What skills are needed for basic home repairs? Learn it all and get hands-on experience in this class.
Salon Basics
Take your hair, skin, and nail care skills to the next level in this class. Learn how hair care professionals help us go from drab to fab!
Wood Creations (levels 1 and 2)
Take a tour of our woodworking shop and learn how to safely use machines and tools found in the woodshop. Gain hands-on experience in the full production process of wooden items.
Crime Scene Investigation
Can you solve this mystery? Explore how investigators in criminal justice solve crimes including the tools and materials they use.
Movie Production (levels 1 and 2)
Lights, camera, action! What does it take to make a video? Learn all about it in this class.

Gone Gardening
Working on that green thumb? Learn basic gardening techniques and how to grow your own produce right at home.
Crafting 101
Are you creative and love making things? Learn how to make basic crafts for gifts, home decor, and more!
Workforce Prep
Take this class and prepare yourself for the world of work! Learn how to create your resume and master the interview process.
Lunch
Students will have a 30-minute lunch break every day.
FCPS Food Services provides lunch for $3.50 or students may bring a lunch from home. FCPS students can use their school accounts or pay with cash. Non-FCPS students can pay with cash.
Starting mid-June (specific date TBD), view the lunch menu by school location. Vending machines are available.
Transportation
There is bus transportation from select FCPS high schools and middle schools outside of the Fairfax High School pyramid. Transportation to and from these schools is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Transportation information will be communicated to families prior to the start of the program.
Tuition
Reduced fee and tuition waivers are not available.

Extended Day Classes
Adult and Community Education (ACE) offers academic and enrichment classes at Fairfax High School from 2:30-5:30 p.m. after camp ends for the day. These classes are an extra cost, and student pick-up at 5:30 p.m. is the responsibility of the parent.
