Glen Forest Elementary School - Proposed Boundary Adjustment

Boundary adjustment process

The Glen Forest Elementary School community has been discussing facility challenges associated with teaching more than 1,100 students in an elementary school. A number of suggestions have been made over the course of several months to help alleviate transportation concerns, lunch time scheduling, and improve student safety. One suggestion that has been made is to consider a boundary adjustment that would move some students from Glen Forest Elementary School to nearby schools.

At this time, Fairfax County Public Schools is considering moving some students from Glen Forest ES to other nearby schools. There are no plans to move any students from other elementary schools in the Justice High School pyramid.  Any approved boundary adjustment related to Glen Forest Elementary School will not change the middle or high school boundaries.

The process to adjust a school attendance boundary includes with a boundary scope meeting as identified in FCPS Regulation 8130.09. Parents, students, staff, and community members were invited to attend a boundary scope meeting on June 10, 2019 to learn about the process, background information, and work in small groups to provide feedback to staff about what schools might be considered in changing the boundary for Glen Forest Elementary School.

A boundary study meeting will be scheduled in the near future. During the boundary study, possible options are presented for the community to consider. The options are based on input the community provided during the scoping meeting. The community will provide feedback on the options and staff will make a recommendation to the School Board. The School Board will schedule a public hearing before taking action on the recommendation to adjust the boundary.
