Elementary Extended School Year (ESY) Special Education Administrative Resource Coach (SPARC) - This position has been filled

Description: This position is a part of the ESY site-based leadership team and will assist the ESY administrator in all areas of ESY program management, including classroom instruction support, data collection monitoring, transportation, teacher and student assignments, and behavior management. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with endorsement in Special Education. Must have an understanding of research-based programs and FCPS supported behavior management programs (e.g., MANDT, PCM, ABA); effective communication skills; and the ability to develop positive relationships with staff, students, and families. Experience with SEA-STARS and knowledge of special education procedures and school-based leadership/supervisory experience required. Department Chair experience preferred.

Description:  Provides instruction based upon the student’s ESY IEP goals; works with students that require intensive behavior support using applied behavior analysis (ABA) strategies.  Students may be working on SOL or VESOL curriculum taught in the previous school year (self-contained Autism/ABA services).  Works collaboratively with ESY administrators, central office support staff, and paraprofessionals; participates in summer collaborative team (SCT) meetings; plans and implements instruction in reading, writing, math, communication, life, and social skills using research-based programs and strategies; develops positive relationships with students and families; monitors and communicates progress through the use of data collection tools; utilizes instructional and supplemental resources effectively and responsibly; assists with routine care, including personal hygiene, feeding, and other tasks.

Description:  Students who attend the severe disabilities program are severely or profoundly cognitively delayed and/or exhibit delays in all areas of development.  Many students in the severe disabilities program have fragile medical conditions and some require private nursing. All students may require significant instructional adaptations, and many require hand‐over‐hand assistance to perform simple tasks and need some level of support to complete daily living activities such as dressing, feeding, grooming, and toileting. Due to the unique nature of student needs in this program, preference is given to current center staff.

Qualifications:  Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with endorsement in Special Education.

Description:  Collaborates with other ESY staff to address work readiness skills for students in the ESY secondary program; provides direction and support to the ESY secondary teachers and paraprofessionals as they access vocational activities; provides guidance in implementing appropriate task modifications and accommodations; develops supplementary vocational tasks in the ESY vocational classroom and around the school; sets up, schedules, and monitors the designated ESY vocational classroom for the development, pick-up, and delivery of jobs for local businesses that are performed in the ESY vocational classroom.

ESY Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (PreK-12)

Description:  Serves students with diverse needs and hearing impairment in all grade levels through a continuum of services to promote curriculum access, participation, and skill maintenance; conducts listening checks to ensure student access and provides consultation to students, staff and families as required to address student IEP goals defined on the ESY IEP; serves as a resource for addressing student communication needs; collaborates with special education teachers and specialists; and supports division wide and department goals. This position requires flexibility in serving multiple sites on an itinerant schedule.

ESY Itinerant Teacher of the Visually Impaired (PreK-12) - This position has been filled

Description:  Serves students with diverse needs and visual impairment in all grade levels through a continuum of services to promote curriculum access, participation, and skill maintenance; ensures student access and provides consultation to students, staff, and families as required to address student IEP goals defined on the ESY IEP; serves as a resource for skills relating to the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC); collaborates with special education teachers and specialists; and supports division wide and department goals. This position requires flexibility in serving multiple sites on an itinerant schedule.

Hourly Teacher Opportunities 

ESY Preschool Resource Teacher (Hourly)

Description: Plans and instructs activities that focus on the students’ critical life skills (communication, academic readiness, fine and gross motor, self-help, and/or social skills) which could be maintained with practice in the community setting as described in their IEPs. Works closely with families and/or community teachers so that they can incorporate skill building strategies into the child’s daily activities. Dates of service range throughout the summer with services provided to children in the community or private preschool, day care, Head Start, or other locations as agreed to by the IEP team.

Qualifications:  Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with endorsement in Special Education Early Childhood (birth-age five years). Early Childhood teaching experience, preferred.

ESY Consult Services Teacher (Hourly)

Description:  Contacts parents or guardians at the beginning of the ESY summer services to determine that all needed materials have been provided and questions answered (does not meet with the student or parent or guardian to provide direct instruction). Provides consult services via phone or email as agreed upon by the ESY consult teacher and parent or guardian, unless otherwise specified in the IEP.  Supports students with a continuum of learning styles and skill levels including students who typically receive preschool, category A, category B, or applied behavioral analysis (ABA) autism services during the regular school year. Consult teacher will complete progress reports based on data collected during parent consultation.  The dates of service follow the ESY class-based direct instruction dates as indicated in the IEP. 

Qualifications:  Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with endorsement in Special Education Early Childhood (birth-age five years) or Special Education.  Teaching experience in the selected grade level preferred.

ESY Homebound Teacher (Hourly)

Description:  Students currently receiving homebound/home-based instruction who are unable to attend class-based services due to a medical or psychiatric condition are eligible for homebound/home-based ESY services. Service delivery hours and goals are determined by the student’s IEP team on the ESY page of the IEP. This position works with students virtually or in-person and collaborates with the student’s attending school for instructional materials and completes ESY progress reports.

Qualifications:  Must hold a valid teaching license issued by the Virginia Department of Education. Ability to provide guidance to culturally diverse students and staff; proficiency in the use of technology; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Technology Resource Teacher (Hourly)

Description:  Coordinates with local SBTS and TSSpecs to support student laptops arriving at ESY locations with students from their original base school locations; coordinate required access to copiers, LCD projectors and interactive whiteboards, including accessories; and support ESY use of Learning Management Systems (Schoology, Google Classroom and/or Google Share Drives). Must be able to resolve basic technical issues with various programs, functions; Flexibility to serve multiple sites

Qualifications:  Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education. Experience with supporting special education staff is preferred.  School-Based Technology Specialist (SBTS) experience, preferred.
