ESY Teacher: Preschool, Community A, Community B, Foundations, Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), and Comprehensive Services (CSS)
Overview: Provides instruction for students who may have learning, emotional, or cognitive disabilities, hearing or vision impairments, or autism based upon the student’s ESY IEP goals; works collaboratively with ESY administrators, central office support staff, and paraprofessionals; participates in summer collaborative team (SCT) meetings; plans and implements instruction in reading, writing, math, communication, life, and social skills using evidence-based programs and strategies; develops positive relationships with students and families; monitors and communicates progress through the use of data collection tools; utilizes instructional and supplemental resources effectively and responsibly; assists with routine care, including personal hygiene, feeding, and other tasks. Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with endorsement in Special Education, and have experience in the teaching the grade level of the position.

ESY Crisis Resource Teacher (CRT)
Overview: Collaborates with ESY administration team, teachers, and central office staff to design and implement classroom and student behavior management programs in support of students’ IEPs; provides support to classroom teachers in developing a range of learning opportunities throughout the daily schedule. Must be able to actively use and apply a constructivist approach and perspective toward changing student behaviors to include de-escalating situations with students and staff members; processing and reviewing incidents with staff members; collecting data as required by ESY IEP goals and behavior plans; and keeping students safe and in the classroom. Understanding of the FBA/BIP process for behavior management required. CRTs are hired for sites that include comprehensive services programs. An active Virginia educational license with a special education endorsement. Certification in MANDT or PCM preferred.

ESY Employment and Transition Representative (ETR) (Secondary (MS/HS) Only)
Overview: Collaborates with other ESY staff to address work readiness skills for students in the ESY secondary program; provides direction and support to the ESY secondary teachers and paraprofessionals as they access vocational activities; provides guidance in implementing appropriate task modifications and accommodations; develops supplementary vocational tasks in the ESY vocational classroom and around the school; sets up, schedules, and monitors the designated ESY vocational classroom for the development, pick-up, and delivery of jobs for local businesses that are performed in the ESY vocational classroom.

Many students in the severe disabilities program have fragile medical conditions and some require private nursing. All students may require significant instructional adaptations, and many require hand‐over‐hand assistance to perform simple tasks and need some level of support to complete daily living activities such as dressing, feeding, grooming, and toileting. An active Virginia educational license with a special education endorsement.
Due to the unique nature of student needs in this program, preference is given to current Key and Kilmer Center staff.

Additional ESY Teaching Opportunities
ESY Preschool Resource Teacher: Hourly
Plans and instructs activities that focus on the students’ critical life skills (communication, academic readiness, fine and gross motor, self-help, and/or social skills) which could be maintained with practice in the community setting as described in their IEPs. Works closely with families and/or community, private, or Head Start teachers so that they can incorporate skill building strategies into the child’s daily activities. Dates of service range throughout the summer with services provided to children in the community or private preschool, day care, Head Start, or other locations as agreed to by the IEP team. An active educational license with Early Childhood special education endorsement is required.
ESY Consult Services Teacher: Hourly
Contacts parents or guardians at the beginning of the ESY summer services to determine that all needed materials have been provided and questions answered (does not meet with the student or parent or guardian to provide direct instruction). Provides consult services via phone or email as agreed upon by the ESY consult teacher and parent or guardian, unless otherwise specified in the IEP. Supports students with a continuum of learning styles and skill levels including students who typically receive preschool, category A, category B, or applied behavioral analysis (ABA) enhanced services during the regular school year. The dates of service follow the ESY class-based direct instruction dates as indicated in the IEP. An active educational license with Early Childhood special education (birth- age five years) or special education (elementary or secondary) required. Teaching experience in the selected grade level preferred.
ESY Homebound Teacher: Hourly
Students receiving homebound instruction are typically unable to attend class-based services due to a medical condition. Home-based students requiring ESY services may also receive ESY homebound services. Service delivery hours and goals are determined by the student’s IEP team on the ESY page of the IEP. This position works with students in their homes, healthcare facilities, and community sites as determined by the IEP team and scheduled with the student’s family as required by the IEP; and collaborates with the student’s base school for instructional material as needed. An active Virginia educational license with special education endorsement required. Assignments based on teacher endorsements, experience, geographic location, and student needs.
ESY Additional/Alternative Services: Hourly
Knowledge and skills to plan and provide individualized instruction with specialized materials which may include communication, academic readiness, reading, writing, and math, fine and gross motor, self-help, social skills, and/or study skills; knowledge and training of evidence-based programs in reading and/or math for elementary or secondary required. Teacher and student schedules are arranged as defined by the individual students’ IEPs in collaboration with the ESY summer services office; and, services may take place at a school or community site. An active Virginia educational license with Early childhood special education (birth-age five years) endorsement or special education (elementary and secondary) endorsement. Teaching experience in the selected grade level preferred. Training in FCPS supported behavior programs (e.g., MANDT, PCM) preferred.
