Preschool ESY Paraprofessional

Description:  Works with students typically between ages 2 to 5 years requiring early intervention for a range of disabilities.  Supports instruction, classroom, and behavior management, implements individual student reinforcement systems, assists with routine care, including personal hygiene, feeding, and toileting, performs certain medical procedures or gives medication under the supervision and with appropriate training; and aids medically fragile students and those physically impaired, which may involve transferring to and from wheelchairs to floor, table, or therapy devices.

Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent, with completion of the Best Practices for Teaching Students with Autism Modules 1-8 or ABA Fundamentals required.  Two years of college, preferred. Experience with preschool students preferred.

Preschool Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) ESY Paraprofessional

Description:  Works with students typically between ages 2 to 5 years who require communication in sign or cued language.  Supports instruction, classroom, and behavior management, implements individual student reinforcement systems, assists with routine care, including personal hygiene, feeding, and toileting, performs certain medical procedures or gives medication under the supervision and with appropriate training; and aids medically fragile students and those physically impaired, which may involve transferring to and from wheelchairs to floor, table, or therapy devices.

Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent, with completion of the Best Practices for Teaching Students with Autism Modules 1-8 or ABA Fundamentals required. Two years of college, preferred.  Communication skills in selected modality (sign or cue) required.

Description:  Works with students who are working on a curriculum based on VESOL during the school year with a range of disabilities (ID, IDS, NCE, PD, AUT, etc.)  Supports instruction, classroom and behavior management, implements individual student reinforcement systems, assists with routine care, including personal hygiene, feeding, and toileting, performs certain medical procedures or gives medication under the supervision and with appropriate training; and aids medically fragile students and those physically impaired, which may involve transferring to and from wheelchairs to floor, table, or therapy devices.

Description:  Works with students who require intensive behavior support using applied behavior analysis (ABA) strategies and may be working on a curriculum based on SOL or VESOL during the school year (self-contained Autism/ABA services).  Supports instruction, classroom and behavior management, implements individual student reinforcement systems, assists with routine care, including personal hygiene, feeding, and toileting, performs certain medical procedures or gives medication under the supervision and with appropriate training; and aids medically fragile students and those physically impaired, which may involve transferring to and from wheelchairs to floor, table, or therapy devices.

Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent, with completion of the Best Practices for Teaching Students with Autism Modules 1-8 or ABA Fundamentals required. Two years of college, preferred. Experience with elementary students, preferred.

Description:  Works with students with significant behavioral and emotional needs working on a curriculum based on SOL who require a highly structured environment. Supports instruction, classroom and behavior management, implements individual student reinforcement systems, assists with routine care, including personal hygiene, feeding, and toileting, performs certain medical procedures or gives medication under the supervision and with appropriate training; and aids medically fragile students and those physically impaired, which may involve transferring to and from wheelchairs to floor, table, or therapy devices.

Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent, with completion of the Best Practices for Teaching Students with Autism Modules 1-8 or ABA Fundamentals required.  Two years of college, preferred. Experience with elementary students, preferred.  MANDT or PCM certification preferred.

Description:  Works with students who may have learning, emotional, or cognitive disabilities, hearing, or vision impairments, and/or autism.  Supports instruction based on student needs in curriculum, communication, life, and social skills; assists with classroom and behavior management; implements individual student reinforcement systems; assists with routine care, including personal hygiene, feeding, and toileting; performs certain medical procedures or gives medication under the supervision and with appropriate training; and aids medically fragile students and those physically impaired, which may involve transferring to and from wheelchairs to floor, table, or therapy devices.  Due to the unique nature of student needs in this program, preference is given to current center staff.

Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent, with completion of the Best Practices for Teaching Students with Autism Modules 1-8 or ABA Fundamentals required.  Two years of college, preferred. Experience at the age level of the ESY position assignment preferred.

Safety & Security 

Secondary ESY Safety & Security Specialist

Description: Supports the centrally located programs at the high school academic program sites; guides the development and implementation of a program for student security and supervision that fosters a safe environment and positive school–community relations; supports various aspects of student activities; performs related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, or a related field plus four (4) years of progressively more experience in safety and security and certification by the Virginia Center for School Safety, required. Knowledge of local county, and state rules and regulations requiring an alcohol-, drug-, weapons- and tobacco-free environment; knowledge of student safety and conduct; ability to enforce those regulations; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public. Applicants must be at least 21 years old at time of appointment.

Secondary ESY Safety & Security Assistant - This Position Has Been Filled

Description:  Supports the programs at the secondary academic program sites; assists with the development and implementation of a program for student security and supervision that fosters a safe environment and positive school-community relations; supports various aspects of student activities; performs related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate, supplemented by specialized safety or security environment training, plus two (2) years of progressively more responsible school or security experience. Certification by the Virginia Center for School Safety required. Knowledge of local county, and state rules and regulations requiring an alcohol-, drug-, weapons- and tobacco-free environment; ability to control students and maintain a healthy school environment; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Applications must be at least 21 years old at time of appointment.
