Institute for the Arts (IFTA)

 

Dance Teacher - IFTA

Description: Plans and implements the daily educational program for middle and high school students. Course assignments are determined by teacher experience and program requirements. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education plus experience in teaching dance ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip hop, and fitness. May be required to teach more than one style of dance.

Music Teacher- IFTA

Description: Plans and implements the daily educational program for middle and high school students. Course assignments are determined by teacher experience and program requirements. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education plus experience in teaching music. Program areas include guitar, piano, orchestra, band, show choir, electronic music, choir, jazz band, and alternative styles for strings.  May be required to teach in more than one of the music program areas.

Theatre Arts Teacher - IFTA

Description: Plans and implements the daily educational program for middle and high school students. Course assignments are determined by teacher experience and program requirements. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education plus experience in teaching theatre. Program areas include acting, directing, playwriting, creative writing, stage makeup, theatre sports, and musical theatre. May be required to teach in more than one of the theatre program areas.

3D Studio Arts Teacher - IFTA

Description: Plans and implements the daily educational program for middle and high school students. Course assignments are determined by teacher experience and program requirements. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education plus experience in teaching art. Program areas include sculpture, ceramics, paper arts, and jewelry making. May be required to teach in more than one medium.

Photography Teacher - IFTA

Description: Plans and implements the daily educational program for middle and high school students. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education plus experience in the use of a manual and digital camera, and photo editing software programs. Film development and processing optional.

Digital Art & Design Teacher - IFTA

Description: Plans and implements the daily educational program for middle and high school students. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education plus experience in Creative Suite, Photoshop, and other web-based editing programs.

Cartooning Teacher - IFTA

Description: Plans and implements the daily educational program for middle and high school students. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education plus experience in cartooning forms and techniques.

Consumer Art Teacher- Session 1 - IFTA

Description: Plans and implements the daily educational program for middle and high school students. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education plus experience in creative cake decorating and modern buttercream techniques.

Fashion Teacher - IFTA

Description: Plans and implements the daily educational program for middle and high school students. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education plus experience in fashion. Program areas include design, illustration, pattern making, eco-fashion.

Instructional Assistant - IFTA

Description: Performs a variety of paraprofessional instructional and support tasks to assist the IFTA administration, teachers, and other staff in the secondary fine arts classrooms; assists with the daily management of the students; performs related duties as required or assigned. 

Qualifications: Graduation from high school or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) plus one (1) year of paid or volunteer experience working with children or documentation of participation in any teacher education introductory course, including high school courses. Teaching experience in fine arts, preferred. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with school staff and students; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Student Information Assistant - IFTA

Description: Performs accurate, responsible, and confidential computerized student information system (SIS) processing, data entry, and complex data and/or statistical reporting following local directive and state guidelines ensuring data accuracy; performs administrative duties involving public and student contacts; tracks necessary attendance data and completes attendance reporting as assigned; assists with grade reporting, close-out, supply distribution, collection, and inventory.

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate plus three (3) years of progressively more responsible office experience. Experience as a student information assistant, preferred. Knowledge of office procedures and database management methods and practices related to student information including confidentiality requirements; ability to multitask, work in a busy office environment, and apply time management skills; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Office Assistant – IFTA

Description: Performs a variety of general office duties required to support the activities of a school to include responding to requests for information, maintaining and updating records and preparing documents; assists with site and program close-out, supply distribution, collection, and inventory.

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school plus some general office experience. SIS experience, preferred. Can demonstrate knowledge of basic business office practices and procedures; ability to use assignment-specific computers, software, and peripheral equipment.

Camp Assistant – IFTA

Description: Supports the IFTA administration, teachers, and staff. This position is recommended for recent high school graduates and college students. Assists teachers in the classroom; aids students who need extra support; helps with lunch and bus duty, and other tasks as required or requested.

Qualifications: Experience working with elementary level students in IFTA/E-IFTA or other summer arts programs or camps, required. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, preferred. Knowledge in visual and performing arts, preferred.

Safety and Security Specialist – Enrichment Site Summer Learning Programs (IFTA, E-IFTA, Tech Adventure Camp, & CTE Summer Academy)

Description: Supports the centrally located programs at the high school academic program site; guides the development and implementation of a program for student security and supervision that fosters a safe environment and positive school and community relations; supports various aspects of student activities. 

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, or a related field plus four (4) years of progressively more experience in safety and security and certification by the Virginia Center for School Safety, required. Knowledge of local county, and state rules and regulations requiring an alcohol-, drug-, weapons- and tobacco-free environment; knowledge of student safety and conduct; ability to enforce those regulations; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public. Applicants must be at least 21 years old at time of appointment.

School Health Aide – Enrichment Site Summer Learning Programs (IFTA, E-IFTA, Tech Adventure Camp, & CTE Summer Academy)

Description: Provides care to sick and injured students within the school and on school grounds according to established guidelines; facilitates administration of medications; makes appropriate student referrals; records clinic visits and care provided on a daily basis; compiles and submits monthly clinic statistics; performs special health care procedures such as epinephrine injections, glucagon injections and nebulization treatments. 

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school diploma or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate with two (2) years of supplemental coursework in a field related to education or human services, plus two (2) years of experience working with children and families. Current CPR and AED certifications, required. Knowledge of CDC/safety protocols and procedures; proficiency in the use of technology; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school staff members, families, and the community; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Elementary Institute for the Arts (E-IFTA)

Dance Teacher– E-IFTA

Description: Plans and implements the daily dance program for elementary school students that introduces them to various dance styles and forms; develops a different class curriculum, in collaboration with the E-IFTA administration, for each week of the program. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education plus experience in dance and working with elementary-aged students.

Special Education Resource Teacher (SPART) – Special Education – IFTA & E-IFTA

Description: Performs a variety of instructional and support tasks to assist the E-IFTA and IFTA administration, teachers, and other staff in the fine arts classrooms; oversees the daily management of students with disabilities who may need support to safely access the building and who may need help with specific program activities; works in SEA-STARS to interpret IEP and other information as needed; collaborates with the special education IA’s about the daily management of students needing assistance. Duties are not limited to, but may include assisting students with routine care, including personal hygiene, or other tasks, as required or requested. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with endorsement in Special Education plus experience with SEA-STARS and knowledge of special education procedures required. Arts experience, preferred. Ability to develop positive relationships with staff, students, and families; ability to communicate effectively.

Computer Resource Teacher – IFTA & E-IFTA

Description: Supports the IFTA and E-IFTA administration, teachers, and students in the fine arts classrooms that require the use of technology; coordinates IFTA and E-IFTA’s technology and multi-media needs; works closely with the host school’s TSPECs; Teacher must be able to resolve basic issues with various programs and functions. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with endorsement in any discipline. School-based technology specialist experience in a High School environment, preferred. Knowledge of Google, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and digital curriculum; ability to resolve basic issues with various programs and functions, including online textbooks, SIS, Schoology, TI-Smart View, Geometer’s Sketch Pad, Discovery Streaming; ability to resolve issues with SMART Boards; ability to support online SOL testing and SOL test administration training.
