Applying for an instructional position

Instructional Application Process

Instructional positions are identified as teachers, school counselors, librarians, instructional assistants, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech pathologists.

Items to Gather Before Beginning Your Application

  • Educational history

  • Employment history (dates, contact info.)

  • Transcripts

  • Resume, cover letter, copy of teaching license, and other supporting documents

Step 1:  Search for Instructional Positions

  • Go to Instructional Job Opportunities to search for jobs

  • Under search instructional opportunities, type the keyword(s) in the text box

  • To review the details of the job, click the position title

Step 2:  Confirm you are qualified in the area(s) which you are interested

  • For teaching positions: All applicants must meet Virginia Department of Education’s licensure requirements. To be employed with Fairfax County Schools you must have or be eligible for a Virginia license [PDF] appropriate to the position for which you are hired.   • For instructional assistant and substitute positions: All applicants must meet the qualifications as indicated under the job details.

Step 3:  Apply Online

  • After viewing the descriptions and qualifications of the job, click Apply to job.

    • New applicants will need to create a login and complete the application.

    • Returning applicants will need to log in using their email address and password.

  • Please remember to upload/attach your cover letter, resume, and any other required documents before submitting your application for consideration.

Step 4:  Complete the TeacherInsight (for teaching positions only)

  • First-time FCPS applicants for teaching positions are required to complete the Gallup Teacherinsight, an online assessment of an individual's talent for teaching. You will receive an email with more details about the Teacherinsight once you complete and submit the online application.

Step 5:  Be Proactive and Stay Connected

  • After you apply for a position, you will receive an email confirming your application has been received.

  • At any time, you will be able to log in to the system using the email and password you created to apply for new jobs and review the status of the position(s) for which you applied.

  • You are encouraged to view the school-specific instructional vacancy list here. After applying to a position, use this list to contact schools with openings.
