Field Experience Placements
Future Educators: Get real-world experience by assisting in preschool-12th grade classrooms.
The college or university contacts FCPS’ Department of Human Resources for required forms and contacts a specific school administrator to determine if they can accommodate a field experience for the student. The college or university must provide the school administrator with the specifics of the request, including FCPS expectations and the duration of the field experience placements. It is solely at the discretion of each school administrator to determine if they can accommodate the specific request.
Fingerprinting and Background Check
In order to complete a field experience placement with FCPS, the college or university student will be required to complete fingerprinting and successfully pass a criminal background check prior to the first day of the field experience placement. FCPS covers the fee for this requirement. Once the student has successfully completed the criminal background check, they will be provided with an FCPS employee photo identification badge which must be worn at all times when in an FCPS school. Upon completion of the field experience placement, the student must return the badge to the principal of that school.
Fingerprinting is administered at the FCPS Welcome Center, which is located on the first floor of the Gatehouse Administration Center. Once the student is fingerprinted, the background check begins. Once the background check is complete, they will receive a photo identification badge which must be worn at all times when in an FCPS school and returned to the school administrator when the assigned field experience placement ends.
