Join Superintendent Brabrand for a series of weekly town hall meetings as he shares information to help students, parents, and staff prepare for the start of the school year.

April 7 - Town Hall (Watch Video) 

This town hall included Superintendent Scott S. Brabrand and his guests, Michelle Boyd, assistant superintendent of Special Services, and Michael Martin, M.D. who is a pediatrician with Inova Health System. 

February 10 - Town Hall (Watch Video) -

This town hall included Superintendent Scott S. Brabrand and his guests  Tawanya Scarboro, kindergarten teacher at Colvin Run ES, Fran Lewandoski, a social worker at Lemon Road ES, and Carlyn Floyd, principal of WT Woodson HS. The Town Hall participants discussed concurrent instruction, social emotional learning, the important role of classroom monitors and details on how to prepare students for returning to school in person starting February 16.

This town hall included Superintendent Scott S. Brabrand and guests Michelle Boyd, assistant superintendent for special services; Dylan Taylor, principal of Willow Springs Elementary School; Erin Lenart, principal of Fairfax High School; and Jeff Platenberg, assistant superintendent of facilities and transportation. The Town Hall discussed return to school issues, health metrics and decision-making guidance, and successful mitigation strategies.

This town hall's topics will include beginning in-person instruction for small groups of students who might be experiencing the greatest challenges with distance learning. Dr. Brabrand was joined by Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services Sloan Presidio and Director of Special Services Lea Skurpski.

Learn about the resources in place for parents, guardians, and families for the upcoming 2020-21 school year during conversations with the director of equity and family engagement and director of information technology support services.


September 1 (Spanish) - Watch Video

In this Spanish language town hall, Dr. Brabrand was joined by two FCPS principals, Cecilia Vanderhye from Belvedere Elementary School and Karim Daugherty from Beech Tree Elementary School, along with Director of Equity and Family Engagement, Leona Smith-Vance. Topics covered included laptop and internet access, virtual learning expectations on engagement and attendance, and the variety of ways to get support and help for parents and students.

This week’s town hall includes a spotlight on FCPS special education staff. Staff members will explain what they do to support students with disabilities in Fairfax County and will talk about student engagement in the virtual environment, family partnerships, student support, and specialized instruction. They’ll share how they—and will continue to—engage students successfully.

Listen as two staff members from FCPS' social work and clinical teams talk about the emotions many families are experiencing during the pandemic. Learn how to cope and how to recognize potential issues of concern.
