I often use the phrase "every child by name and by need," to describe the heart of our work. During my travels, I see many examples of programs and services that you have implemented to continue our journey to bring that phrase to life. I am so proud of all of you for your dedication and hard work.

During my recent school visit to Poe MS, I was joined by School Board member Sandy Evans. We had an honest conversation with staff about what it really takes to bring every child by name and by need to one student. In this case, that student is Yahir, an 8th grader at Poe MS.

Last year, Yahir was struggling in school. His counselor brought together a team of teachers to develop an intervention to address Yahir's specific needs. It took time, and for his ESOL teacher, it took a personal reflection on his interactions with Yahir. I cannot thank Principal Jason Pannutti, School Counselor Brig Carrie, and Teacher Luke Stoothoof enough for being willing to share their story with me.
