Business leaders in our region recently were asked by Nathan Onibudo, student representative to the Fairfax County School Board, to donate books to students in Fairfax County Public Schools or to purchase the books for themselves. The books, personally and carefully chosen by Onibudo, share messages of inclusion and equity that would interest elementary, middle, and high school students as well as adults.

Nathan’s call-to-action took place during a Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce virtual “In a Word” event. In alignment with Black History Month, the Chamber’s new Inclusion and Equity subcommittee selected February’s “In a Word” event title, Equity: Stories of Tangible Workplace Change and involved Virginia Senator Mark Warner and business leaders from our region who shared ways they are working to end systemic racism.  The announcement of Nathan’s bookstore, created by Bookworm Central, wrapped up the event with a call-to-action.

Nathan’s bookstore remains open.  Please click here to visit Nathan’s bookstore.

Anyone is welcome to purchase books for themselves or to donate.  Nathan and the FCPS Office of Business and Community Partnerships will work to distribute the donated books to select students.

Buy a Book, Build a Future is the slogan created by Nathan who is fulfilling a campaign promise by developing the bookstore, which encourages all children to understand and appreciate diversity, racial equity, and inclusion.
