The information on this page is for active employees. If you are a retiree, please view the Retiree Open Enrollment website.

Open Enrollment is your annual opportunity to review your plan elections and make changes to your medical, dental, and flexible spending account benefits. This year, open enrollment for 2020 benefits will start on October 14 and end on November 8, 2019. Elections made during Open Enrollment will become effective January 1, 2020.

As always, it's important to read the detailed communications that will be sent to you this fall from the Department of Human Resources and make plan selections that best fit your needs.


Meet ALEX®!cartoon holding a folder

ALEX® is an interactive online tool that will walk you through your FCPS benefit options and provide personalized assistance along the way. When you talk to ALEX, he'll ask you a few questions about your health care needs, explain different aspects of each benefit (including plan details and premiums), and point out what options may make the most sense for you. If you have questions, ALEX has answers! Meet ALEX.


Benefits Open Enrollment Events

Open Houses with Flu Shot Clinics Extended Hours

(Benefits staff only; no health vendors; no flu shot clinics)

Open Houses will include:

  • Benefits staff, health plan vendors, and retirement savings plan vendors.
  • Flu shot clinics. Register for your appointment here.
  • Workshops for Expectant Parents - Register through MyPLT; use the search term "maternity". For the complete workshop schedule, please visit the Expectant Parent website.

Extended hours will include:

  • Human Resources staff to help answer questions and provide UConnect assistance.

    Please note: Flu shots are unavailable during extended hours. Due to space constraints, benefit vendors will not join us for extended hours.


Make Changes

Employees can log into UConnect beginning 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019, to review their current benefit elections and make any necessary changes. UConnect provides immediate notification that elections have been completed.

UConnect is available until Friday, November 8, 2019, at 4:30 p.m. Following Open Enrollment, all eligible employees will receive confirmation via their FCPS email addresses verifying their elections for 2020.


Health Plans

Aetna/Innovation Health, CareFirst, and Kaiser Permanente continue as approved vendors in 2020. Each vendor maintains a website designed especially for FCPS. These sites have a number of tools to help you understand your benefits and provider networks. Additionally, the Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) for each health plan can be found on the medical vendors' websites. Please click on the links below for more information.

Dental Plans

FCPS offers you a choice of two dental plans: Aetna Dental Preferred Provider Organization (DPPO) or Aetna Dental Network Only (DNO).

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is an IRS tax-favored account you can use for eligible out-of-pocket expenses. FSA accounts will be administered by Optum Bank, effective January 1, 2020. FCPS offers two types of FSA: Health Care and Dependent Day Care.
