Adult English for Speakers of Other Languages - ESOL

The FCPS Adult ESOL program provides adult students with the practical English language they need in their everyday lives, as well as English skills that will help them advance in their education or careers.

Adult English (ESOL) Classes Intake Testing and Registration Information

All new students must take an intake test before registering for a class.  Intake testing and registration for both in-person and online classes will be in-person events.

  3. Go on the test date to take the test. The intake process should take 2.5-3 hours. No appointment is necessary.

  • AM Classes: $299 + Book
  • PM Classes: $150 + Book
  • Advanced Specialty classes: prices vary (NOTE: Specialty classes are not offered in the summer)

FCPS Adult ESOL will not be accepting any new students in online classes for Spring 2023.

FCPS Adult ESOL offers several specialty classes for students at high intermediate and advanced levels.

New Students

Students who are new to FCPS' Adult ESOL must be tested before registering for classes. See test times and locations above under the "I want to study English in person" drop down.

American English Pronunciation
  • Speak more effectively.
  • Advanced learners improve business, professional and personal communication skills.
  • Instruction will focus on accented speech sounds and intonation patterns that interfere with clear communication and contribute to misunderstandings.

Conversation High Intermediate Plus
  • Practice higher-level conversation skills while reading and discussing current cultural and social events and issues.
  • Expand vocabulary, express and support opinions, and respond appropriately and effectively to others' opinions.

English for Business and Marketing

This class will connect you with vocabulary, information, and strategies for developing your goals for owning your own business in the United States.

English for Employment Success

Practice English language skills while learning more about planning for a career, finding and applying for a job and developing employability skills for job success. Learn more about the American workplace and what employers expect from successful employees.

Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Word Certification for English Learners - IN PERSON

Work with a team of instructors to develop your skills in Microsoft Office Word. You will have hands-on training in 2 class sessions plus time to work on your specific skills needs in a lab session. At the end of the course, you will take the MOS Word certification exam. The certification is recognized by many employers and is a good addition to any resume. Materials included.

Pre-requisiteIn addition to having a high intermediate or above level of English, you need to have basic computer, Internet, keyboarding, and mousing skills to take this class.
