Facilities Planning for the Future
Making sure that FCPS' facilities meet the needs of students and staff.
Building for Our Future: Capital Improvement Project StatusThe Capital Improvement Program includes dollars for renovations, modular classrooms, additions to existing schools, and construction of new schools.
The Facilities Planning Office ensures that all FCPS students can learn and grow in the best possible space.
Office staff members constantly update and review information on population growth and trends as well as residential construction. At the same time, the office reviews and updates the state of nearly 200 FCPS facilities. The office takes into consideration and creates reports on student accommodation, school enrollment projections by grade level, and attendance area adjustment recommendations. With this information, office staff members develop a five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to suggest renovations to existing buildings and, if needed, new construction.
The Facilities Planning Advisory Council (FPAC) is a citizen group which provides suggestions and advice to the office for consideration. Working with FPAC, the office is developing a comprehensive plan for all schools that is strategic and long-range, and is in the process of creating more Geographic Information System (GIS) products to support this initiative.
