Process to Designate Bush Hill ES as AAP Center

Fairfax County Public Schools is proposing Bush Hill Elementary School be designated as an AAP center beginning in August 2018. The process to make program changes to a school is outlined in FCPS Regulation 8130.9

FCPS provides a wide variety of programming in our schools and pyramids, including a continuum of AAP services.  We continuously monitor enrollment and growth in our school programs and seek opportunities to align our services within our existing pyramid structures.

Currently, many elementary school students in the Edison High School pyramid elect to attend the AAP center at Springfield Estates Elementary School, which is located in the Lee High School pyramid. There are also many students who choose to stay at their base school for AAP services. FCPS is proposing to open an AAP center at Bush Hill to be able to keep cohorts of students together as they progress from elementary school through high school.

Collecting community feedback is important to the process. Two community meetings were held to explain what is required for a school to operate as an AAP center, the proposed timeline with options, and collect feedback about the proposal for opening an AAP center at Bush Hill Elementary School. A survey was also sent to parents for additional feedback.

A public hearing was held by the School Board on February 8, 2018. The School Board will take action on the proposal at its February 22 meeting.
