Retired Teachers Make Excellent Substitutes
Retired teachers are able to apply online to be a substitute teacher or a substitute instructional assistant through the FCPS Instructional Talent Gateway.
When applying to be a substitute teacher, please have the following document ready to upload.
- One letter of reference from your most recent employer signed and dated within the last 12 months.
Applicants are required to complete the TeacherInsight, an online interview unless otherwise completed. An access code will be sent via e-mail within two business days of your submitted application. The interview (which can be accessed 24-7) takes approximately 40 minutes to complete and must be completed in one continuous session. Each question is timed, so it is important to complete the interview when you will not be interrupted.
Onboarding Portal, Substitute Orientation
After completing the application process and the TeacherInsight Interview, you will be e-mailed employment information regarding our online onboarding system. This streamlined onboarding process will allow for expedited processing of employee information. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, employees will be able to complete forms, view required FCPS training and more from any Internet connection. After completing the onboarding, please call the Substitute Office so that we can confirm that it is complete. Please ignore the automated e-mail requesting you to call the Office of Substitute Employment to schedule an appointment for a four-hour orientation, which you are not required to do. However, you will have to come in for fingerprinting and a criminal background check.
When you come in to be fingerprinted you must bring all of the following documents:
- A negative TB screening, test or a chest x-ray results dated within the last 12 months signed by a physician
Applicants who arrive without all the required documents will not be processed.
If you have any questions, call the Office of Substitute Employment at 571-423-3030 option 8.
