Youth Teacher Assistants (YTA) are 15 and older and support instructors with full- or half-day classes providing a role model for younger children. YTAs can experience and learn about new subject areas or increase and share their understanding of more familiar subjects. YTA options will be available on a weekly basis from 24 July - 16 August. Regular summer camp sessions meet for a five-day week, Monday through Friday from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm, and sessions are held on the National Mall in the Ripley Center. The Rec-PAC program will operate at 40 elementary school locations around Fairfax County on weekdays from 1 Jul - 8 Aug. Counselors-in-Training (CIT) work as part of a staff team to facilitate activities for children. During the summer, students will be assigned to a site and work daily from 8:15 am - 3:45 pm or 11 am - 6 pm depending on the site. CITs must be at least 14 years old. Many CITs return year after year, eventually accepting paid Rec-PAC positions when they turn 18 years of age. This opportunity is for teens looking to gain valuable work experience, learn leadership skills, and earn government service hours. Participants must attend a 3 hour orientation course on Sat, 22 Jun, 9am-12pm, at Chantilly High School. There is a $135 fee that covers training, manual and a t-shirt. THE JOEY PIZZANO MEMORIAL FUND (JPMF) SEEKS VOLUNTEER SWIM BUDDIES – The Joey Pizzano Memorial Fund (JPMF) seeks volunteer swim buddies Saturdays, from 1:00-2:00 pm. JPMF’s “Splash” program seeks volunteers to assist individuals with disabilities learn how to be safe and have fun in and around the water. Volunteers must be 13 or older. A 30-minute training will be provided on the first day of volunteering. If you volunteer for all 4 offered sessions, JPMF will cover the cost of a lifeguard certification class. Sessions will be held at Providence, Lee District and Oak Marr Rec Centers.

Inova has volunteer opportunities for teens. The minimum age requirement is 16 years old. The school year session is 29 September through 23 June. Volunteers must commit to at least one 3-4 hour shift per week. Volunteer positions are available in their Patient Support Services, Elder Life Program and Gift Shops. Volunteers who need to complete just 20 hours of community service may inquire to help out at the consignment shops. All prospective teens must email the Volunteer Services Office to register for the volunteer lottery. The school year lottery will be on on 6 September. Volunteers who will staff the welcome desk, greet
visitors, answer questions, and interact with the
public. Prospective volunteers must be at

requirement. At least 8 hours/month are required
but the schedule can be flexible. Volunteers

of people. Multiple languages are a plus.
