  • W.T. Woodson Summer Institute-August 18th and 19th 2009: The summer institute, formerly called the AP Institute, is a study skills workshop designed for anyone attending Woodson in the 2009 – 2010 school year. The workshop will focus on topics such as reading, writing and reasoning skills; math and science skills; note-taking and test taking skills; critical thinking skills; time management; academic integrity; and general strategies for success in high school courses.   • Woodson Adopting New Schedule for 2009-2010 School Year: After reviewing the results of schedule modifications at various Fairfax County Public Schools, Woodson has decided to change its schedule to an eight-period day which includes learning seminars.   • Woodson is top Fairfax School on the 2009 Newsweek-Washington Post List: Woodson High School ranked #71 in the 2009 Newsweek-Washington Post list of 1,478 top U.S. high schools. Woodson was one of two Fairfax high schools that appeared in the top 100. For more details, go to www.newsweek.com


  • The Siemens Foundation has announced that W.T. Woodson High School is a recipient of the 2008-2009 Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement: As one of 50 high schools nationally to win the award this year, our school will receive a $1,000 grant to support science and math education. The winners of the 2008-2009 Advanced Placement Awards were listed in a full-page ad in the February 23rd edition of USA Today and on the Siemens Foundation website at www.siemens-foundation.org. Additionally, we have been awarded a banner to display at our school. Watch for an announcement as to the date of the official placement of the banner in our school building.

  • Interims and Report Cards Will not be Mailed to Students' Homes: For the rest of the year, quarter and interim grades will NOT be mailed; instead they will be carried home by the students. Only the final end-of-year grades will be mailed home. If you currently receive phone and/or email updates from Mr. Yost, a reminder will be sent via email and/or phone on the days the grades are given to the students. However, if you do not receive these updates from Mr. Yost, please contact your child’s counselor or assistant principal to update your child’s information. Additionally, we will post the dates of distribution on the website.

  • Virginia Thespian Educator of the Year: This past weekend at the Virginia State Thespian Conference at Christopher Newport University our own Ms. Terri Hobson was named the Virginia Thespian Educator of the Year. Out of all of the high schools in the state of Virginia, Terri is the only educator to receive this award.
