TASK – Our
Task is an international network of young adults
aged 15 - 25 who, with help from adult Mentors,
is developing a Youth Earth Plan for the 21st century.
Internships are available within this organization.

2009
SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING EDUCATION PROGRAM (SEAP)
– are eight week summer research
opportunities at a participating Office of Naval
Research (ONR) laboratories. $1,500 stipend for
the eight week program, $1550 for returning students.
Participating laboratories are located in Arizona
, California, Florida, Maryland, Mississippi, Pennsylvania,
Virginia, and Washington, DC. Specific locations

Applicants must be a US Citizen, high school student
who has completed at least grade, and graduating
seniors are eligible. Applicants must be 16 years
of age for most laboratories For more information

AND FROST INSULATORS AND FROST INSULATORS AND ASBESTOS
WORKERS LOCAL #24 JOINT APPRENTICESHIP committee
is accepting applications for Apprenticeships. The
starting pay is $13.57/hour plus benefits. Applications
will be accepted the 1st and 3rd Monday of every
month, except for holidays, from 9:00 am –
12:00 pm, on an ongoing basis. All applicants must
apply in person at the Apprenticeship Office, located
at 901 Montgomery Street, Laurel, MD 20707. Applicants
must be 18 years old, and bring their Birth Certificate,
Social Security card, and Driver’s License
(or another form of government-issued photo identification).
All applicants will be screened at a later date.

LINEMAN
SCHOLARSHIP APPRENTICESHIP – Dominion
Virginia Power provide a 15 week complete lineman
training course and will pay for tuition, books,
supplies, materials, tools, tool belt & boots,
CDL class “A” training, a furnished
apartment during training, travel allowance to and
from Trenton Georgia and one interim trip during
the 15 week training period. Employment opportunities
will be waiting for you on completion. To enter
this program, one must have a high school diploma
or GED, be able to lift at least 75 pounds, and
weigh under 290 pounds,. There are a number of other
requirements that will be considered. Visit the

STEAMFITTERS
LOCAL 602 JAC – is
taking applications for apprenticeships. If you
are interested in a job in Heating, Air conditioning,
Refrigeration, Process piping, or Construction and
service fields, you can apply for an apprenticeship
at the U.A. Mechanical Trades School, 7552 Accotink
Park Road, Springfield, Virginia 22150. Applications
will be accepted from 8 am – 11 am only on
12, 14, or 16 January 2009. Applicants
will need a letter stating that they will graduate
in June of the year in which they are applying or
a High School Diploma or GED. Applicants will also
need an official transcript, their social security
card, birth certificate, photo identification (driver’s
license preferred), and if a veteran, your DD214.
Both a math test and a drug test will be given.
Prepare by attending the open house and math test
review on Saturday, 6 December 2008
at 8:00 am at the U.A. Mechanical Trades School
at 8509 Ardwick-Ardmore Road in Landover, MD 20785
(301.341.1556). You can also apply at the Landover
school on 5, 7, or 9 January 2009.

The
STUDENT CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION (SCA) offers
expense-paid conservation internships to people
over 18 who “have the concern, the capability
and the commitment necessary to preserve our natural
and cultural resources.” Thousands of positions
are available nationwide with opportunities in over
50 career disciplines. Interns serve 12 weeks to
12 months while living and working in National Parks,
Forests and Historic Sites. Interns gain real career
experience and earn an education award and/or academic

U.S.
SECRET SERVICE INTERNSHIP – Student
Volunteer Service Internships with the U.S. Secret
Service are advertised on their official website.
In order to be considered for these unpaid academic-related
work assignments, applicants must be at least 16
years of age at the time of appointment, be a U.S.
citizen, be enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment
during the upcoming semester or quarter as a full-time
or part-time high school student or a student at
an educational institution not above the baccalaureate
level, obtain an agreement from the institution
to participate, not a son or daughter of a Secret
Service employee, maintain a satisfactory academic
record of a 2.5 or better GPA. Completion of a background
investigation and drug screening is also required.
