Award Winners

2005

The 2005 Fair was held at Robinson Secondary School on April 1-3, 2005. Thirty-one Woodson students earned a total of seventy-five honors at the fair. Students from Woodson earned one fourth of all of the Grand Prizes -- more than any other school, public or private, in Fairfax County.

Congratulations go to Grand Prize Winners Amy Duong, Stephen Honan, Samantha Saenger, and Cindy Spahn who represented Woodson and Fairfax County at the International Science and Engineering Fair, in Phoenix, AZ, May 8-13. 2005 (www.intelisef2005.org/) In addition, Duck Ju Kang and Thomas Pak were Grand Prize Nominees, and will compete at the Virginia Science Fair for additional Woodson representatives at the International Fair. All six of these students won first place in their respective categories.

The following Woodson Students earned second place honors in their respective categories: Virginia Buescher, Samuel Choi, Paul Gearing, Abraham Hwang, Doyoung Kim,.Daniel McBride, Becca Tannenbaum, Rebecca Uttermann, and Julie Viets.

Placing third in their respective categories were: Lily Grabill, Sarrah Hadiji, Jennifer Lee, Winifred Miller, Jessica Moffatt, Cathleen Murphy, Hillary Nebhut, Rebecca Oppenheim, and Aliza Sial.

Kasey Beernik, Elise Fiore, Patrick Gildea, Kelley Hecker, Jaclyn Jakubek, Kelsey Ryan, and Alexa Tenga earned Honorable Mention in their respective categories.

In addition, the following Woodson students won a number of awards and scholarships from scientific and business organizations at the Fairfax Regional Science Fair.

We are pleased to note that Stephen Honan received the Grand Prize in the Environmental Science category at the International Science and Engineering Fair. In addition to being one of the top 14 students in the world, he will receive scholarships for himself plus $1,000 for the W.T. Woodson Science Department and the Fairfax Regional Science Fair. Woodson at the 2005 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was named a Best of Category winner.
