Introduction

There are certain periods in history where "a culture, once dormant, has been reawkened" (Huggins 3). This statement is true of the Harlem Renaissance. In this brief time period, African-American literature, music, and art blossomed and became recognized by the world. These areas were not only looked at as just achievements for African Americans, but as achievements for Americans as a whole.
