| Event | Invisible Man’s first speech as a member of the brotherhood. |
| Setting | An arena in Harlem that is usually used for boxing matches. |
When Invisible Man first enters the arena, he remembers that he was there once before with his father. He remembers this by seeing a picture on the wall of the boxer who had been beaten blind. At first, when he begins his speech he does not know what to do, but like in his eviction speech, he follows his Southern instinct. In his speech, Invisible Man talks about how they are "a nation of one-eyed mice." He says that they need to reclaim their sight and combine and spread their vision. The crowd’s reaction to his speech is overwhelming; as he finishes, the crowd goes wild. Brother Jack is also excited, but the other brothers are not pleased with his speech. The brothers feel as though his emotional tactics are not in keeping with the scientific discipline of the brotherhood. As a result, Invisible Man must begin training with brother Hambro the next morning.
