Prearranged Absence Form

WSHS - END OF YEAR PREARRANGED ABSENCE POLICY GUIDELINES

It is expected that all students will finish the school year and take their final exams at the regularly scheduled times. In extreme circumstances, it may be necessary for a student to end the school year early. When this is the case, unusual arrangements must be made for the completion of end of year assignments/projects, and final exams. It is important to realize that the Director of Student Services will carefully scrutinize requests of this nature. Requests may be approved in extreme circumstances; they will not be approved for reasons of convenience. Therefore, students requesting to end the school year early due to moving, educational programs, etc., must adhere to the following procedures.

1. A Letter of request, signed by a parent/guardian, must be submitted to the student’s counselor. This letter must include the reason for the request and the date of the move or the program that requires early release from the school year.

2. In lieu of a letter, an email to the counselor may be accepted if all information noted in #1 (above) is included.

3. The request must then be approved by Ms. Jennifer Ferrara, Director of Student Services. Any questions regarding the request will be brought to the Principal or grade level administrator for further discussion.

4. If approved, the student will be notified and an End of Year Pre-Arranged Absence Form (obtained in attendance office) must be completed and signed by all teachers.

5. The student is responsible for making arrangements with his/her teacher for early final exams, as a part of the pre-arranged absence form process. Students who do not arrange for early final exams, or do not take the rescheduled exam will receive a grade of zero on the final exam.

In order to receive credit for the 2011-2012 school year, students must be in attendance on May 24, 2012.
