NOAA Teacher at Sea
Each year the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) selects teachers to participate in a one to three week scientific cruise. Teachers participate in research while working as a crew member on an ocean-going research vessel. I was selected for a cruise with the Resource Assessment and Conservation Engineering (RACE) program on the Miller Freeman sailing out of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. The primary objective of the cruise was to conduct a survey to determine the distribution, biomass, and biological composition of walleye pollock in the Bering Sea.
